Channel 3 has joined hands with its partners to reinforce the recycling PP plastic project, delving into the process of recycling used plastic to watercolor set cases

Every year, more than 8 million tons of various kinds of plastic waste end up in the oceans, both on land and sea, such as from fishing activities. It is undeniable that plastic has improved the quality of life and is ingrained in our everyday lives, resulting in increasing in the amount of plastic usage. However, the proper plastic waste management, especially PP (Polypropylene) plastic which marked with the number 5, is still challenging. PP plastic is a type of plastic used in a variety of product, such as food packaging, yogurt cups, frozen dessert containers, Thai rice noodle baskets, plastic cups that can be recycled and used as raw material for other products, or in other words, transforming waste into valuable items. Despite the challenges of plastic waste management, Thai society is becoming aware and proactive in addressing waste pollution.

Channel 3 and BEC group, one of main initiator of “A Million Hearts Paint Dreams for Border Patrol Police Schools" Project encourages people nationwide to send used food packaging made from PP plastic, which will be recycled into to 5,000 watercolor set cases to be distributed to Border Patrol Police Schools across the country. This initiate has well received great support from people across the nation, with the amount of plastic donation pouring in.

To further highlight the success of the project, Channel 3 is committed to representing people nationwide by exploring the recycling process of used PP plastic at the plant in Siam Eastern Industrial Park, Pluak Daeng District, Rayong Province, that is EcoBlue Limited in the production of recycled PP rasin. This process involves recycling of PP Plastic into PP resin before being used to produce 5,000 watercolor set cases.

After receiving used PP plastic that has been cleaned, it will go through sorting machines that automatically sort out PP plastic into transparent and opaque plastics, while separating PP plastic from other types of plastic to ensure only PP plastic into the process. After that, the PP plastic is grinded into flakes, heat-washed and chemically washed to obtain clear and odorless PP flakes before being melt down PP flakes into recycled PP resin. PP resin is tested for quality and safety before sending to the manufacture to be molded into watercolor set cases. The cases are passed on to Nan Mee Industry Company Limited (under the Horse brand) to produce 5,000 watercolor sets. All PP plastic is introduced into the entire recycling process and will no longer be left as practice waste.

Thailand Post plays a key role as the service provider, collecting used PP plastic from across the country and sending it directly for production. Nan Mee Industry Company Limited under the Horse brand, produces watercolor sets, including the Border Patrol Police.
